I thought I would share my strange but wonderful Lenka concert story. It's a bit long-winded and I would love to hear about your concert experiences too.

I live in Korea. Yesterday I got the day off work so I decided to travel to Seoul for a day trip of shopping and general tom-foolery.
After wandering the city for half a day I ended up in the COEX mall. This mall is an underground giant. It has everything you could think of including a large aquarium. Needless to say, I got lost.
Suddenly I heard a drum thumping in the distance. Being naturally attracted to loud noises (not a good survival trait) I went towards it.
On the stage in front of me there was a girl playing some drums and a man with a glorious afro. The afro compelled me to stay.
A man announced in Korean that the band wasn't going to play until 6:20. It was about 5:00 at the time. I wondered if I should stay or go. I had never heard of the band before but they did have a man with an afro. Surely that counts for something? The Afro-headed man then played a bugle. I was staying.
At about 6:00 I felt a tap on my shoulder and an American accent said "Do you speak English?'' It was a tiny Korean girl. We got talking. At first she thought I was with the band seeing as I was the only white person in the crowd.
She was 15 years old and had been at a Extra-curricular school assignment all day. Her mother was at a meeting with her brother's school so she had been let loose to wander the mall for a few hours. Actually this was the first time she had ever been left to her own devices so she wasn't too sure what to do with herself. (Fun Fact: Korean children have very little free time. Mostly they have school, academy, study, school, academy, study etc.)
This was her very first concert.
It was marvelous.
Afterwards it was announced that if you bought a CD you could get it signed and meet Lenka. It wouldn't be right for my new Korean friend not to have that experience so I told her that I would buy the CD and she would have to come with me to meet Lenka. She was very excited. There was an extra Korean-language booklet inside the CD case that I gave to her so we could both get a signature.
Afterwards we celebrated with icecream and I left her in the bookstore to wait for her mother as I had to go catch a train.
I'm glad her first concert experience was a Lenka one.

I saw Lenka at the Hultsfreds festival in Sweden. Being a vivid fan om music and festivals in general I spend alot of time listening to the bands that are going to play at the festival, just to make sure that I don't miss anything. Lenka was one of those "bands" that cought my interest. A couple of years before, Regina Spektor opened my eyes to the singser/songwriter genre so Lenka was defenitively on my list of people to see.

This year the festival banned any cameras that were not compact and since I have a sytemdigital camera I was very, very annoyed. After alot of whinig to the festival general I was granted a presspass allowing me, not only to bring my camera, but also acces to the press area infront of the stage. Anyway... Enter Lenka. Lights go dim and here we go....

I am by no means a religious person so using terms like touched by an angel, born again or saved would be hypocritical for me to use but honestly, there are no other terms to use. I actually understood people who continuously talk about meeting Jesus and feeling a sence of being saved.

Not only did I cry, but I almost forgot to take any pictures, which I regret today. I have a few good ones but had I known the full effekt of her music and her beauty I would have snapped alot more. I left that concert "saved". I was emotionally drained but so at ease and satisified with myself, life and avarything around it. Whilst being so completely at ease with everything I was burdoned by a great sadness that I experienced this alone. For noone of my friends were there and I hade noone to shar this with. On the other hand, on hindsight, this was a good thing because today, when I listen to Lenka, it's something for me. Noone can ever take that away from me.

Strange happenings at concerts? This might not be one of them but for me, this was a unique experience that completely changed me as a person. I know I sound lite a ranting lunatic fan but all I really want to do is to try and communicate the AWESOME power in her music.

Lenka, if you do read this... Thank you....
